Terms of service
Last updated 9 October 2026
These are the terms you agree to by using JessChat. They are written to be read, not to be impenetrable.
1. Your account
You must be at least 13 years old. You give us a real email address you control, and you keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so if you think somebody else has access, change your password and end the other sessions from Settings.
One account per person unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.
2. What you may not do
The detail is in the community guidelines, and it is part of these terms. In short: do not use JessChat to harass, threaten, or abuse people; do not send sexual content involving minors; do not impersonate somebody; do not send malware; and do not use automated means to send bulk unsolicited messages.
Do not attack the service itself: no attempting to break into other people’s accounts, no interfering with the infrastructure, no working around rate limits, storage limits, or blocks.
3. What you send stays yours
You keep the rights to everything you send. You give us only the permission needed to operate the service — to store your content, transmit it to the people you send it to, and display it back to you and to them. That permission ends when the content is deleted, except for copies other people received, which are theirs.
We do not use your content to train models, and we do not license it to anyone.
4. Calls
Voice and video calls run over a real-time connection between the people on the call. We do not record them. No audio or video from a call is stored by us at any point, and there is no feature — for you, for support, or for a moderator — that can play one back.
What is kept is the fact of the call: who was on it, when it started, and how long it lasted, so it can appear in your call history. If the other person’s phone rings while their app is closed, the ring is delivered by Apple’s or Google’s notification service, which sees that a call is arriving and from whom, but no call content.
A call needs a working network on both sides. We do not promise one will connect, stay connected, or be usable in poor conditions.
5. Limits on uploads
There is no limit on how much an account may hold in total. Single files are capped, because very large ones fail more often than they succeed: 25 MB for a photo, 200 MB for a video, 16 MB for a voice message, 100 MB for any other file, and 5 MB for a profile photo.
Nothing you have sent is deleted to make room, and nothing is deleted because it is old. If we ever need to introduce an overall limit we will say so in the app before it takes effect, and it will not apply retroactively to what you have already sent.
6. Enforcement, and what we will tell you
When somebody breaks these terms, we may:
-
Suspend the account temporarily;
-
Ban the account, ending access permanently.
Every such action requires a stated reason and is recorded in an internal audit log. If we suspend or ban your account, you can appeal by emailing [email protected], and a different person than the one who made the decision will review it.
We may act without warning where there is an immediate risk to someone’s safety.
7. Verification badges
A verification badge means we checked that an account belongs to the person, organisation, or JessChat team it claims to. It is not an endorsement, it is not for sale, and we can remove it if the basis for it no longer holds.
8. The service will change
We add and remove features. If we remove something you depend on, or change these terms in a way that materially affects you, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
9. Ending it
You can delete your account at any time, from inside the app, and deletion is immediate.
We may end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if we are required to by law. If we end the whole service we will give reasonable notice and a way to retrieve your data.
10. No warranty, and the limit of our liability
JessChat is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we do not promise that a message will always be delivered instantly. Do not rely on it for emergencies — call your local emergency number.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of what you have paid us in the last twelve months or 50 USD. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
If you are a consumer, you keep every right your local law gives you, and nothing in these terms takes those away.
11. Disputes
Tell us first: [email protected]. Most things are resolved that way. If they are not, you may bring a claim in the courts of the place where you live.
