Messaging that keeps up
Send a message and it is there. Typing indicators and read state so you know where you stand, and it reconnects on its own when the signal comes back.
JessChat is a messaging app for the handful of people you actually talk to. Messages, photos, voice notes and calls, one to one or in a group.
Coming soon on iOS and Android.
How safety works
Everything here is in the app today. Nothing on this page is a plan.
Send a message and it is there. Typing indicators and read state so you know where you stand, and it reconnects on its own when the signal comes back.
Share a photo straight from the camera roll at full quality, or a video clip up to 90 seconds. Both are prepared for sending so a big file does not mean a long wait.
When typing is the wrong shape for what you want to say, hold to record and send it as a voice note.
Call one person or a group. Mute, switch camera, and carry on in a picture-in-picture window where your device supports it.
Make a group, name it, add people. Everything that works in a conversation works in a group, calls included.
Get told when a message or a call arrives. Turn previews off and the notification says a message came in without showing what it says.
Block anyone and they can no longer message or call you. Report an account, a message, a photo or a group for a moderator to review.
Every device signed in to your account is listed, with when it was last used. End any session you do not recognise and it signs out immediately.
A photo off a modern phone is enormous, and a video is worse. The app handles that for you instead of making it your problem.
A high-resolution photo is resized before it is sent, at a size chosen to keep it looking right on a phone screen. You pick the picture. You do not think about the file.
Clips are prepared for sending so they arrive quickly and play straight away, without the wait that usually comes with sending video in a chat.
Voice and video, one to one or with a group.
The useful version of this section is the specific one, so here it is.
Blocking stops someone messaging or calling you, needs no reason, and is not announced to them. You can separately report an account, a message, a photo or video, or a group, and a moderator reviews it against the guidelines.
Being a moderator does not come with the ability to read conversations. The tools have no feature that opens a thread or plays back a call, and the only message content a moderator sees is content somebody attached to a report. The server enforces that, not the dashboard.
JessChat is not end-to-end encrypted. Traffic between your device and our servers is encrypted in transit, and data is encrypted at rest, but messages are stored in a form our servers can read. That is what lets them reach your other devices and the people you send them to.
We say so here rather than leaving it to the policy, because implying more protection than exists would change what you choose to send. If you need end-to-end encryption, JessChat does not currently provide it.
End a session on a device you do not recognise, block anyone you do not want to hear from, and delete your account from the app or from here. Deleting does not need the app installed.
